The tournament resulted in significant economic activity, particularly in the construction of roads, stadiums and many buildings as well as real estate, and hospitality sectors, leading to the opening of a huge amount of new jobs between 2010 and 2022.
However, after the FIFA World Cup, the demand for many job sectors decreased and this affected the job market in Qatar negatively. Many infrastructure projects in Qatar have reached completion, its led to a significant reduction in construction workers and related roles. These situations negatively affected the ex-pats in Qatar and because of this many ex-pats left Qatar after 2022. Qatar almost reached 70-80 per cent of there development by building numerous buildings and international standard roads.
Also, during the World Cup, many businesses opened in Qatar due to the economic boost. After the event, 80 per cent of the business owners faced challenges, which resulted in challenges for the job market and companies. In Qatar, there were limited production companies and the opportunities for new business owners to establish were limited by law and current trends in Qatar.
Qatar has implemented many labour laws following international standards like minimum wage system, salary transfer through WPS and also workers can change their jobs without the consent of employer. But even after many changes the job market of Qatar was facing many challenges.
Overall, The FIFA World Cup gave a temporary boost to Qatar’s job market and economy, the post-event period has presented many challenges to the country, especially for migrant workers and some business owners.
